Nestlé Nigeria has called for stronger collaboration in tackling environmental pollution, leading a nationwide clean-up and awareness campaign to promote a circular economy and sustainable waste management.
The initiative, organised to mark World Environment Day 2026, brought together government agencies, private organisations, environmental groups and hundreds of volunteers across 12 locations in Nigeria.
According to Victoria Uwadoka, Head of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Nestlé Nigeria, protecting the environment requires continuous partnership and collective responsibility.
“Addressing environmental challenges requires consistent action at all levels. Government, the private sector and communities must work together to drive responsible environmental practices and deliver real impact,” she said.
The campaign focused on reducing plastic pollution while encouraging communities to embrace responsible waste disposal and recycling practices.
In total, 424 volunteers participated in the exercise, recovering 4,507.8 kilograms of solid waste and 48.2 kilograms of recyclable materials, which were properly sorted and sent for recycling and disposal.
The clean-up exercise was carried out simultaneously across Lagos, Abuja, Agbara, Jos, Kano, Enugu, Awka, Ota, Abaji, Sagamu, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.
Representatives of the Federal Ministry of Environment and the National Plastics Action Partnership (NPAP) praised the initiative, describing collaboration between government, businesses and communities as essential to tackling Nigeria’s growing plastic waste challenge.
Stakeholders also stressed that long-term environmental progress depends on encouraging communities to take ownership of waste management through small but consistent actions.
Nestlé Nigeria said the campaign reflects its commitment to promoting environmental sustainability while supporting Nigeria’s transition towards a circular economy.
