Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have thrown their weight behind Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu for the 2027 governorship election, reaffirming their confidence in his leadership and political experience.
The lawmakers made their position known during a press briefing in Ilorin, where they also dismissed reports claiming that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had not conducted a primary election to produce a governorship candidate.
Speaking on behalf of the legislators, Majority Leader Abdulkadri Magaji described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that the party followed the required process in selecting its candidate.
According to the lawmakers, their endorsement reflects Danladi-Salihu’s contributions to governance, legislative achievements, and commitment to the development of Kwara State.
“The reports suggesting that no primary election was conducted are false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary tension within the party.”
The Assembly members also called on APC supporters and stakeholders to ignore rumours surrounding the party’s candidate selection process and remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
They reiterated their commitment to the growth and unity of the APC in Kwara State while pledging support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq ahead of the 2027 polls.
A member representing Ilorin East Constituency, Rukayat Shitti, also defended the Speaker’s emergence, arguing that opposition to his candidacy was largely driven by personal interests rather than the broader interests of party members.
The endorsement is expected to further shape political discussions in Kwara as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum.
