Nigerian troops have recorded another major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism after successfully overpowering suspected Lakurawa terrorists during a military operation in Kebbi State, leading to the recovery of dangerous weapons and explosives.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in the Dogon Daji area of Dandi Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to flush out terrorists and criminal elements operating in the North-West.
According to the Nigerian Army, soldiers launched a coordinated offensive against the terrorists on June 14, deploying superior firepower that forced the suspects to abandon their hideout and flee the area.
Following the successful assault, troops pursued the fleeing terrorists along their escape routes, where they discovered and recovered a significant cache of weapons, explosives, and logistics equipment believed to belong to the criminal group.
Among the items recovered were Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launch tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two motorcycles used for movement, battery chargers, and other personal belongings left behind by the terrorists.
Military authorities confirmed that no soldier was injured or killed during the operation, describing the mission as a significant success in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts across the region.
Speaking on the development, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the operation highlights the military’s determination to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace in affected communities.
In his words:
“The operational success underscores the unwavering commitment of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the region.”
He further assured Nigerians that troops would continue to sustain pressure on criminal groups and deny them the freedom to operate.
According to him:
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in sustaining offensive pressure on these criminal elements, denying them freedom of action and disrupting their nefarious activities to ensure the safety and security of law-abiding citizens.”
The latest operation is part of intensified military efforts targeting terrorists, bandits, and other armed groups threatening peace and security across northern Nigeria.
Residents have continued to express hope that ongoing military offensives will further weaken criminal networks and improve security in vulnerable communities.
