Former Imo State Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, has demanded ₦5 billion in damages from actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo over alleged defamatory comments made during a live television interview.
In a letter dated June 11, 2026, and signed by his lawyer, Chief Soronnadi A. Njoku (SAN), Udenwa accused Okonkwo of making statements that allegedly portrayed him as someone who unlawfully collected money from political aspirants through intimidation and coercion.
According to the former governor, the remarks, which were broadcast on national television and later circulated by various media platforms, have damaged his reputation and public image.
Udenwa is demanding a public apology from Okonkwo within seven days, to be published in five national newspapers and aired during prime-time on Channels Television. He also wants the politician to formally retract the statements and undertake not to make similar allegations in the future.
In addition, the former governor is seeking ₦5 billion as compensation for the alleged damage caused by the remarks.
The legal team warned that failure to meet the demands within the stipulated period could result in a lawsuit being filed at the appropriate court in Imo State.
The development sets the stage for a possible legal showdown between the two political figures if the matter is not resolved amicably.
