The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has blamed Nigeria’s growing ethnic and religious tensions on poor leadership and political manipulation.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Baba-Ahmed said many politicians deliberately exploit tribal and religious differences to gain political advantage, creating distrust and weakening national unity.
According to him, Nigerians are facing common challenges such as insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and declining public services, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
“Bandits, kidnappers and criminals do not ask victims about their tribe or religion before attacking them,” he said.
The former presidential aide argued that the country’s biggest problems are rooted in leadership failures and weak institutions rather than differences among citizens.
He urged political leaders to stop using identity politics and instead focus on policies that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Baba-Ahmed also called for renewed efforts to rebuild public trust, strengthen institutions, and promote national unity, stressing that Nigerians have more in common than what divides them.
According to him, the country needs leaders who can bring people together and address issues affecting citizens across all regions.
