Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the administration’s massive investment in infrastructure is already delivering results across the country.
Speaking at the 36th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt, Wike said Tinubu has demonstrated the leadership, courage, and political will needed to tackle Nigeria’s long-standing infrastructure deficit.
According to the former Rivers State governor, infrastructure remains one of the strongest indicators of effective leadership, noting that the scale of projects currently being executed reflects the administration’s commitment to national development.
Wike highlighted several major projects being driven by the Federal Government, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, East-West Road, and access roads linking the Second Niger Bridge.
He also pointed to the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri railway corridor, expansion of rail networks, power sector investments, housing projects, broadband infrastructure, and educational initiatives such as the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The minister said the administration’s energy reforms, including the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative and National Hydrogen Policy, are positioning Nigeria for future economic growth and energy sustainability.
Wike further described the removal of fuel subsidy as one of the boldest decisions taken by the Tinubu administration, arguing that the policy has increased government revenues and created more funds for infrastructure and development projects.
According to him, transformational leadership often requires difficult decisions aimed at securing long-term benefits rather than short-term comfort.
