Vice President Kashim Shettima has reassured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu is actively working to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and other victims of kidnapping across the country.
Speaking after a special Jumma’a prayer held at the National Mosque in Abuja to commemorate Democracy Day, Shettima said the Federal Government remains fully committed to restoring peace, stability, and security nationwide.
The Vice President acknowledged the growing concerns over insecurity but urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring them that the administration is taking deliberate steps to address the challenge.
According to him, President Tinubu remains steadfast in his resolve to tackle insecurity and ensure that victims currently in captivity are safely reunited with their families.
Shettima’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, a development that recently prompted the President to approve the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen security efforts.
He called on Nigerians to continue praying for the nation, stressing that difficult times would eventually pass and give way to lasting peace.
The Vice President also paid tribute to past heroes who contributed to Nigeria’s democratic journey, noting that their sacrifices laid the foundation for the freedoms citizens enjoy today.
He urged Nigerians to remain united and focus on the values that bind the country together, emphasizing that national unity remains essential to overcoming current challenges.
Shettima further expressed confidence that ongoing efforts by the government and security agencies would yield positive results in the fight against kidnapping, banditry, and other security threats.
