The traditional ruler of Yawota community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Baale Emmanuel Alade, has revealed that parents of the abducted schoolchildren turned down relief materials and cash assistance from government officials, insisting that nothing matters more than the safe return of their children.
Speaking in an interview with News Central, the monarch recounted the terrifying attack that threw the community into mourning. According to him, gunmen stormed the area and began shooting, forcing residents to flee for safety.
Baale Alade said several pupils and teachers were abducted during the attack, while a resident who attempted to approach the armed men was shot dead.
The monarch disclosed that government representatives later visited the community with bags of rice, cash donations, and words of comfort for affected families. However, the grieving parents reportedly rejected the items, saying their priority was not financial assistance but the rescue of their children still being held captive.
According to him, the emotional scene reflected the pain and frustration of families who have spent weeks waiting and praying for the safe return of their loved ones.
The abduction has continued to spark outrage across the country, with parents, teachers, traditional rulers, and residents intensifying calls for urgent action to secure the release of the victims.
As rescue efforts continue, families say they remain hopeful but insist that no amount of money or relief materials can replace the children and teachers still missing.
