Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has stirred controversy after alleging that the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State was orchestrated to embarrass President Bola Tinubu and portray the Federal Government in a bad light.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fayose claimed the incident was being used to shift public anger towards the President, despite the security responsibilities of state governments.
The former governor argued that governors also have a role to play in securing their states through local security structures and should not place the entire burden on the Federal Government whenever security challenges arise.
Fayose specifically questioned the response of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, alleging that political activities appeared to take priority while the abducted pupils and teachers remained in captivity.
Drawing comparisons with the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Fayose claimed that insecurity has often been used as a political tool to weaken governments and influence public opinion.
He maintained that while President Tinubu remains the nation’s chief executive, state governments must equally be held accountable for security failures within their territories.
The remarks have since generated debate, coming amid nationwide concern over the fate of the abducted students and teachers taken by gunmen in Oyo State.
