Abia State Governor Alex Otti has emerged unopposed as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate ahead of the next election, clearing the path for his second-term bid.
The governor was officially declared the winner of the party’s governorship primary held in Umuahia after delegates unanimously endorsed his candidacy.
The development reinforces Otti’s strong grip on the Labour Party structure in Abia State as he prepares to seek another term in office.
The primary election also produced several familiar faces, with serving lawmakers securing tickets to return to the National Assembly.
In Abia South, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe clinched the Labour Party senatorial ticket, positioning himself for a sixth term in the Senate.
Abaribe, who won his current seat under the APGA platform before later joining the Labour Party, received the party’s backing to contest again.
Former senator Darlington Nwokocha also emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate for Abia Central, while members of the House of Representatives elected under the party secured their return tickets.
The outcome of the primaries is expected to strengthen the Labour Party’s preparations for the upcoming elections as it seeks to retain its influence in Abia State.
