President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to promote unity, tolerance, love, and obedience to the rule of law as Muslims across the country celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
The President made the appeal on Wednesday shortly after observing the Eid prayer at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground in Lagos alongside other Muslim faithful and top government officials.
Speaking after the prayers, Tinubu thanked God for granting Nigerians the opportunity to witness another Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
“We thank Allah for His mercy and for allowing us to see another Eid-el-Kabir,” the president said.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to reflect on the true meaning of the festival by showing compassion, generosity, and peaceful coexistence regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
“We must show love to one another — no discrimination, no ethnicity, no hatred,” he stated.
The President also stressed the importance of tolerance and respect for the rule of law, describing them as necessary foundations for a peaceful and stable society.
“It is essential that we be very tolerant and obedient to the rule of law which must guide our society,” Tinubu added.
Speaking on insecurity, the President condemned banditry, violence, and the killing of innocent people, insisting that no religion supports such acts.
“There is nowhere in holy teachings that says you should engage in banditry or kill another human being,” he said.
Tinubu explained that the story behind Eid-el-Kabir itself highlights the importance and value of human life, sacrifice, and obedience to God.
Earlier during the prayer session, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, also urged Nigerians to reject tribalism, hate speech, terrorism, and violence.
The cleric encouraged citizens to embrace sacrifice, unity, peace, and service to humanity as core lessons of the Eid celebration.
He also offered prayers for President Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom, good health, and guidance in leading Nigeria.
Among top dignitaries present at the Eid prayer ground were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola.
The President’s message has sparked reactions online as Nigerians continue exchanging Eid-el-Kabir goodwill messages across the country.
