The Oyo State Government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, inter-school sports competitions and other outdoor activities involving students across the state over growing security concerns.
The decision follows the recent deadly abduction attack in Oriire Local Government Area, where students and teachers were kidnapped during a coordinated assault on schools in Ogbomoso.
According to reports, some of the victims are still being held captive, increasing fear and tension among parents and residents.
In a circular issued by the Oyo State Ministry of Education, the government directed all schools to immediately stop activities that require moving students outside school premises.
The directive was signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs B.T. Oyinloye, and sent to education authorities, school administrators, principals and head teachers across the state.
The government explained that the move became necessary because of the worsening security situation and the need to protect students and school staff.
It also stated that any previous approvals granted for excursions or external school activities have now been cancelled.
School authorities were further instructed to keep students within school premises during school hours and remain alert to suspicious movements around schools.
The ministry urged administrators to quickly report any security threats or unusual activities to law enforcement agencies in their areas.
According to the government, the safety of students remains more important than academic or extracurricular activities at this time.
Officials said the suspension will remain in place until the security situation improves.
The latest directive has sparked fresh concern over insecurity and the safety of schools in parts of Nigeria, especially after recent attacks targeting students and teachers.
Many parents are now calling for stronger security measures around schools to prevent further incidents.
