Media entrepreneur and ADC chieftain, Dele Momodu, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will be dominated by Nigeria’s most powerful political figures, saying the race will be decided by strategy rather than emotions.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday night, Momodu described President Bola Tinubu, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as formidable political forces ahead of the next general election.
“The game ahead is going to be a game of the biggest boys,” Momodu said.
“Former President Jonathan is formidable. President Bola Tinubu, being the current President, is extraordinarily formidable. And then, the combination of Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, if all their planning goes through, is also going to be formidable,” he added.
The ADC stalwart argued that zoning should not determine the opposition’s strategy if it hopes to defeat Tinubu in 2027.
“There is no basis for zoning. Anybody who wants to remove Tinubu would have to come from the opposite direction, northern Nigeria,” he stated.
According to him, serious opposition parties must focus on strategic alliances and influential northern politicians capable of challenging the ruling APC.
“If ADC is serious now, they had better go and find an Atiku or a Tambuwal,” Momodu said.
He further noted that the coming election would not be an ordinary political contest but a high-stakes battle involving major political actors from different regions of the country.
“So, which direction would APC then look strategically? We are talking strategy, we are not talking emotion or anything,” he added.
Momodu also compared Nigeria’s political landscape with established democracies like the United States, saying elections globally often follow predictable political patterns shaped by party structures and influence.
“There is a pattern to elections globally. Whether you are in America, analysts already understand voting patterns on election nights. Nigeria cannot be an exception,” he said.
“Not even Donald Trump would have arranged an election for himself without the formidable support of his party and general funds,” Momodu added.
