Former House Minority Leader Dominates Oshimili South APC Primary As Party Members Turn Out In Large Numbers
Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress primary election for the Oshimili South Federal Constituency seat in Delta State, defeating incumbent lawmaker Ngozi Okolie.
The primary election, which took place across different wards in Asaba, recorded a peaceful process and impressive turnout from accredited APC members who participated in the voting exercise.
Observers at the exercise monitored activities in Wards 5, 9 and 11, where party members were seen voting in an orderly manner under the supervision of party officials and electoral representatives.
Voting was strictly limited to accredited card-carrying members of the APC, with officials describing the process as transparent and well-coordinated.
In Ward 11, party officials disclosed that Elumelu secured more than 1,000 votes, while the incumbent lawmaker, Ngozi Okolie, reportedly failed to record any vote in the ward.
The Returning Officer, Kingsley Oniawa, praised the conduct of party members and electoral officials during the exercise, noting that the entire process remained calm and free of disruptions.
According to him, the primary election was conducted peacefully without any form of violence or disagreement, while votes were properly counted in line with the party’s guidelines.
Results from Ward 9 also showed a strong performance by Elumelu, who reportedly polled over 1,800 votes during the exercise.
The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Community Development, Sunday Obi, attributed the large turnout to effective mobilisation by party leaders and stakeholders across the constituency.
He explained that party members were adequately informed ahead of the election and responded positively by coming out in large numbers to participate in the voting process.
Similarly, the APC Chairman in Ward 9, Ngoziame Baze, commended the peaceful conduct of the primary, stressing that electoral procedures were properly followed throughout the exercise.
He noted that the election was smooth and orderly, adding that there were no reports of clashes, disruptions or challenges during the process.
Party stakeholders and supporters within the constituency linked Elumelu’s victory to his strong grassroots connection and political influence across Oshimili South Federal Constituency.
