The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its timetable for party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, with presidential aspirants required to pay ₦60m for Nomination and Expression of Interest forms.
Party National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, announced the schedule in Abuja, noting that the internal election process will begin with screening and sale of forms.
According to the timetable, the sale of forms runs from May 13 to May 18, followed by screening of aspirants. Successful candidates will then proceed to purchase nomination forms between May 21 and May 23, 2026, with submission closing on May 25.
Cleopas added that appeals from the screening exercise will be heard on May 25 and 26, while primaries for various positions hold on May 27 and 28, and the presidential primary is scheduled for May 29, 2026 in Abuja.
He explained that House of Assembly aspirants will be screened at state level, while National Assembly and presidential hopefuls will be screened at the party headquarters in Abuja.
All aspirants must also sign a code of conduct agreement in line with party guidelines, while the NDC will adopt an “open secret ballot” system to ensure transparency, credibility, and internal democracy.
On fees, the party said its charges remain among the lowest in the country. Breakdown shows ₦2.5m for State Assembly aspirants, ₦6m for House of Representatives, ₦8m for Senate, ₦30m for governorship, and ₦60m total for presidency (₦20m expression of interest + ₦40m nomination).
Female aspirants and persons with disabilities will enjoy discounts of 50% and 25% respectively across all categories.
The party reiterated its commitment to a transparent process aimed at producing credible candidates for the 2027 elections.
