US President Donald Trump has promised to intervene and resolve any remaining problems with Ukraine’s access to Starlink satellite communication services, saying he would contact Elon Musk if the restrictions are not lifted.
Trump made the statement on Friday while speaking to reporters at the White House, amid continued concerns over restrictions affecting Starlink services in Ukraine.
The US president said he had not spoken to Musk, the chief executive of SpaceX, the company behind Starlink, about the issue. However, he indicated that he was prepared to contact the billionaire if Ukrainian officials continued to experience problems accessing the service.
“If there is a problem, I’ll get it straightened out,” Trump told reporters.
His comments came after Ukrainian officials said on Friday that speed restrictions on Starlink communication systems remained in place, contradicting Trump’s earlier claim that access to the service had been fully restored.
The restrictions have been in place since October 13, as relations between Kyiv and Washington have deteriorated.
Starlink, which provides internet connectivity through a network of satellites, has become an important communication tool in Ukraine, particularly amid the ongoing war with Russia.
The continued restrictions have raised questions about the reliability of the service and the extent to which Ukraine can depend on a privately operated satellite network during the conflict.
Trump defended Musk, insisting that the SpaceX chief executive would not deliberately do anything wrong despite the concerns surrounding the situation.
“Elon will never do anything wrong. I know him very well. He’s a fair person, and you know it’s an unusual situation where they’re talking to a private company. But he’s not going to do anything that’s wrong,” Trump said.
The president’s remarks suggest he is willing to use his relationship with Musk to address the issue if necessary. However, Trump did not confirm whether he would contact the SpaceX chief executive immediately or outline what specific action he might take.
For now, Ukrainian officials continue to report that speed restrictions remain in place, leaving uncertainty over when full Starlink service will be restored.
