US President Donald Trump has said Washington could bring its war with Iran to an end quickly, but questioned whether the United States should pursue an immediate conclusion or allow the conflict to gradually wind down.
Trump made the remarks on Friday, October 23, while speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn before departing for Florida.
“We could end it very quickly,” Trump said, raising questions about the next step in the US approach to the conflict.
“Do we want to finish it off or just want to let it wither?” he added.
The president did not provide further details about what a quick end to the war would involve or how his administration might allow the conflict to fade gradually.
Trump also spoke about oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, saying that oil was continuing to pass through the waterway.
“We are getting everything we want,” he said.
His comments suggest the administration is weighing how to proceed with the conflict while assessing developments around the strategically important strait, through which significant volumes of the world’s oil supplies are transported.
Trump’s remarks come as attention remains focused on Washington’s next move and whether the president will seek a rapid conclusion to the war or allow the situation to wind down over time.
