US President Donald Trump has suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy should consider appointing someone else to negotiate on Ukraine’s behalf as Kyiv seeks to end its war with Russia.
Trump made the remarks on Monday, October 19, repeating his criticism of Zelenskiy’s role in the negotiations. On October 10, the US president had also called for Ukraine to replace its leader.
“Maybe it’s time for Zelenskiy to get somebody else to negotiate,” Trump said.
Trump also commented on Russia’s military actions in Ukraine, describing Moscow’s recent activity as limited.
“They haven’t been doing much,” he said, adding that Russia had been “fine” with regards to Ukraine.
Despite his remarks, Trump confirmed that the United States continued to share intelligence with Ukraine as the war continued.
He also said he would consider allowing Ukrainians to remain in the US under Temporary Protected Status until the conflict ended.
Trump’s latest comments come amid ongoing efforts to bring the war to an end, with questions remaining over the leadership and direction of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
