Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force on Monday night in Abuja but released on bail after approximately one hour of questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The police confirmed the arrest and subsequent release, stating that the former governor had been directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations continue.
Okorocha was reportedly arrested at REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja.
Police Explain Reason for Arrest
The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the development to Channels Television, explaining that Okorocha was interrogated before being granted bail.
The arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour earlier invitations from the police in connection with the ongoing investigation.
According to the information provided, Okorocha was first invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2. However, following a request from his lawyers, the appointment was moved to September 8.
He reportedly failed to attend on the rescheduled date, leading to further developments in the police investigation.
Investigation Continues
Although Okorocha was released on bail after the interrogation, the police have asked him to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday to answer further questions.
The investigation centres on allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. These remain allegations, and no finding of guilt has been established in the information provided.
The police are expected to continue their inquiries as they seek further clarification on the matter.
