Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has voluntarily submitted himself to relevant security agencies for investigation over allegations linking him to banditry, terrorism financing, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Buba disclosed this at a press conference in Bauchi, saying he had nothing to hide and was ready to cooperate fully with security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
He said his decision followed the repeated circulation of the claims, which he described as serious allegations that should be subjected to professional investigation rather than political arguments.
According to the senator, he previously served in the National Assembly in a capacity involving national security and intelligence, where he worked with military, intelligence and other security agencies in efforts to tackle banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
He said some of those engagements were sensitive because of their national security implications, but alleged that legitimate security-related activities had been distorted to create the impression that he had links with criminal elements.
“I will not ask Nigerians simply to take my word for it. That is precisely why I have submitted myself to the relevant security agencies. Let the professionals investigate,” he said.
Buba said he had previously petitioned the Nigeria Police Force in September 2025 over publications containing the allegations, which led to criminal proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He added that his legal team had also taken legal action against an individual believed to be behind some of the allegations, with the matter reportedly referred for Interpol intervention.
The senator said pursuing the matter through litigation alone was no longer enough because the allegations involved national security, stressing that the relevant security institutions should be allowed to investigate and determine the facts.
He urged his supporters to remain calm and avoid insults, threats, violence or retaliation, saying the matter should be addressed through lawful processes.
Buba also challenged those making the allegations to submit any evidence against him to the appropriate security authorities.
“If there is evidence against me, let it be produced. If there is none, those who have deliberately manufactured and circulated these allegations should equally be held accountable under the law,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peace, security, justice and service to the people of Bauchi State and Nigeria, adding that he would accept the outcome of any credible investigation based on facts and evidence.
