The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned annual preventive maintenance at its 330/132kV Ajaokuta transmission substation, warning that the exercise will temporarily disrupt electricity supply to some customers served by the Abuja and Benin Distribution Companies (DisCos).
According to TCN management, the maintenance is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 9am to 4pm and will affect parts of the franchise areas of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) hereby informs the public that annual preventive maintenance has been scheduled at its 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 9am to 4pm,” the statement reads.
TCN said the exercise is aimed at allowing its technical crew to carry out preventive maintenance on the 162MVA, 330/132kV power transformer, as well as the associated switchgear and other ancillary equipment at the substation.
As a result, AEDC will be unable to off-take electricity to customers in Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and surrounding areas throughout the maintenance period.
TCN also said BEDC customers in several locations would be affected during the exercise.
“Similarly, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to its customers in Okpella Town, BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, Freedom Group Company, Ososo,Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara, Oka and environs.”
The transmission company said electricity supply would be restored to all affected areas once the maintenance work is completed.
TCN apologised to customers who may experience inconvenience as a result of the planned exercise and thanked them for their understanding and cooperation.
