The APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has said its 2027 campaign will be centred on issues and the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration rather than fresh promises or personal attacks.
The Director-General of the campaign council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, stated this in Gusau on Thursday after a closed-door meeting with Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal and traditional rulers in the state.
Yari said Nigeria had experienced several difficult periods that raised concerns about the country’s survival, but Nigerians had continued to demonstrate their commitment to keeping the nation united.
“Nigeria is a wonderful country. We have been seeing so many things which made some people predict that Nigeria would not continue as a country, from the June 12 crisis.
“This is where we are. Nigerians continue to ensure this country remains a united country,” Yari said.
He said the APC’s 2027 campaign would focus on key issues and what the party intends to achieve if given another opportunity to govern Nigeria.
Yari also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s commitment to the country’s development, describing the President as a leader who genuinely loves Nigeria.
“Tinubu is beyond any other person. He is for Nigerians and he’s a leader that loves this country without any fear of contradiction,” he said.
The former Zamfara governor stressed that the campaign would not be built around making new promises to Nigerians but would instead showcase what the APC-led government had already achieved.
He said his first official engagement as Director-General of the President’s campaign was with traditional rulers because of their close connection with communities and their influence in society.
Yari said the support and blessings of traditional leaders would remain important to the success of the APC campaign as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
Governor Dauda Lawal said the meeting was organised to formally introduce Yari to the traditional rulers after his appointment as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, describing him as a “son of the soil”.
“It is important for us to hand him over to them to seek for their support. This is the reason for the meeting,” Lawal said.
The governor also assured the campaign council that Tinubu would receive 100 per cent support from the people of Zamfara in the 2027 general elections.
