Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 presidential election, citing what he described as the administration’s achievements since taking office.
Akpabio spoke on Monday when he received members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse, at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Senate President said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would have significant achievements to present to Nigerians when campaigns for the 2027 election begin.
According to him, Tinubu inherited a difficult economic situation, including a period when several states struggled to meet their salary and pension obligations.
“The current president has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles.”
Akpabio argued that the situation had improved under Tinubu’s leadership, attributing the changes to what he described as the President’s economic restructuring and unconventional approach to governance.
He predicted that voters would ultimately judge the administration’s performance at the ballot box in 2027.
“In 2027, Nigerians will separate the chaff from the grains and re-elect President Tinubu for a second term in office.”
Akpabio Challenges Opposition
The Senate President also criticised opposition politicians challenging Tinubu, arguing that they had not presented Nigerians with convincing alternatives to the administration’s policies.
He said the APC would use its campaign platform to highlight what it considers the major accomplishments of the Tinubu administration.
Akpabio also praised the 10th Senate, saying it had recorded what he called “giant strides” under his leadership and would continue working with the executive to deliver on its commitments to Nigerians.
He urged lawmakers not to be distracted by criticism on social media, advising them to remain focused on their legislative responsibilities.
“We don’t need to listen to social media because it is garbage in, garbage out.”
Akpabio Urges APC Loyalty
The Senate President also called on senators who will not return to the 11th Senate to continue supporting the APC and the Tinubu administration.
Only about 51 serving senators reportedly secured APC tickets to contest the 2027 elections.
Akpabio said the continued loyalty of lawmakers to the party and President Tinubu would be recognised and appreciated.
Speaking earlier, Dandutse said the committee’s visit to Akwa Ibom was part of its constitutional responsibilities and also provided an opportunity to pay a courtesy visit to the Senate President.
