Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved N1 million each for 31 indigenes of the state who recently returned from South Africa.
The state government said the financial support is intended to provide immediate relief to the returnees and reassure them that they have not been abandoned during their difficult period.
According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku, the government is also conducting a comprehensive profiling of the returnees.
The exercise is aimed at understanding their individual circumstances and socio-economic needs so that appropriate support can be developed to help them reintegrate into society.
The government said the gesture reflects Otti’s commitment to supporting vulnerable residents and protecting their welfare.
“It also reflects the government’s resolve to ensure that every Abian, regardless of circumstance, is given an opportunity to recover, rebuild, and contribute meaningfully to society.”
The statement added that Otti’s administration had continued to prioritise policies and programmes focused on protecting the dignity and wellbeing of residents facing hardship.
The Abia Government also reaffirmed that the state remains home to all its indigenes, regardless of where they live or the circumstances that brought them back.
“No Abian will be left behind, irrespective of their location or circumstance.”
