A Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has directed the police to investigate a criminal complaint against Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged comments calling for violence against members of the Accord Party.
Presiding Magistrate II, Farida Ibrahim, directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja, to investigate the complaint and submit a report within two weeks.
The directive was contained in a letter dated August 13, 2026, issued by the court’s registrar pursuant to Section 89(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
The complaint was filed by Pelumi Olajengbesi, campaign spokesman for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, following comments attributed to Fadahunsi in a viral video ahead of Saturday’s Osun governorship election.
Separate defamation threat
The court development comes amid a separate legal dispute between Olajengbesi and Fadahunsi.
Olajengbesi’s lawyer, Hammed Lasisi, had issued Fadahunsi a 24-hour demand to retract alleged defamatory statements made during interviews on Viable TV and Channels Television.
According to the lawyer, Fadahunsi accused Olajengbesi of sponsoring thugs and members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups.
Olajengbesi has denied the allegations, describing them as false and damaging to his reputation.
His lawyer demanded an “unequivocal and unreserved public apology” through the same platforms where the alleged statements were made.
The letter warned that failure to comply could lead to a N10 billion defamation and injurious falsehood lawsuit against the senator.
Meanwhile, the police investigation ordered by the Abuja court is expected to focus on the criminal complaint over Fadahunsi’s alleged comments regarding Accord members.
