The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has rejected reports that the party has endorsed Governor Nasir Idris or decided to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The clarification followed an endorsement reportedly announced by associates of the embattled PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, who declared on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi that the faction loyal to him had adopted Governor Idris as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
However, in a special announcement dated August 8, 2026, Kebbi PDP Chairman Usman Bello Suru dismissed the report as false and baseless, insisting that the party remained united and independent in the state. Suru said the Kebbi PDP was working in harmony with all its candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections and urged members and supporters not to be distracted by what he described as attempts to create confusion within the party.
“The PDP in Kebbi State is one and united. It is in full harmony with all its candidates that will contest in the upcoming election,” Suru said.
The party chairman called on members to concentrate on strengthening the PDP and building unity among its supporters, stressing that individuals circulating the alleged endorsement did not have the authority to speak on behalf of the party in Kebbi.
Suru further pointed to the party’s preparations for the elections as evidence of its continued political structure in the state. According to him, the PDP has candidates contesting State House of Assembly seats across all 21 local government areas, as well as candidates for the House of Representatives in all eight federal constituencies and the Senate across the three senatorial districts.
He also confirmed that the party has a candidate for the Kebbi State governorship election, reinforcing the party’s position that it has not abandoned its political ambitions in the state.
The Kebbi PDP chairman maintained that the party’s candidates across the various elective positions show that the PDP remains an established and independent political force in the state.
The development comes amid internal disagreements within the PDP, with rival groups claiming different positions on the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the Kebbi State leadership has insisted that the party remains focused on its candidates and preparations for the next electoral cycle.
