The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed that it has commenced an internal administrative review involving the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh, while also inviting social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to provide evidence supporting the allegations he made against the senior police officer.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Police said the criminal case linked to the allegations had already been investigated and is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Force explained that because the matter is already in court, it would not engage in public debates or media trials capable of influencing the judicial process.
According to the statement, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has invited AIG Jimoh for questioning as part of the ongoing internal administrative review.
The Police also disclosed that on July 30, 2026, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja formally invited VeryDarkMan to appear before investigators and present evidence to support the claims he made publicly.
The Force stated that the ongoing judicial and administrative processes demonstrate its commitment to investigating all credible allegations of misconduct, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant.
According to the Police, complaints against its personnel are handled through established statutory channels, including the Force CID, the Force Complaint Response Unit, and where necessary, the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.
While acknowledging the constitutional right of Nigerians to demand accountability and express their opinions, the Police stressed that such rights must be exercised responsibly.
The Force maintained that freedom of expression does not extend to making defamatory or unsubstantiated allegations aimed at forcing disciplinary action outside the legally recognised procedures.
It further assured Nigerians that any officer found guilty after investigations would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, the Police Regulations, Force Orders, and other applicable laws.
The Police also warned that where allegations are found to be false and deliberately intended to damage reputations, it reserves the right to pursue appropriate legal action.
The Force urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation extended by the FCID, cooperate fully with investigators, and allow both the administrative review and the ongoing court proceedings to run their course without interference.
