The Nigerian Senate is working towards improving public senior secondary education across the country through stronger collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments and relevant education authorities.
The initiative is aimed at improving coordination in the allocation of resources and addressing persistent challenges, including inadequate infrastructure and insufficient learning facilities in public secondary schools.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele disclosed this while leading debate on a bill seeking to amend the National Senior Secondary Education Act.
Bamidele said the proposed amendment would address critical gaps in school infrastructure and learning resources, while strengthening efforts to improve the quality of education available to students in public senior secondary schools.
The proposed legislation is also expected to enhance cooperation among the relevant authorities, ensuring that interventions and resources are better coordinated to meet the needs of schools across Nigeria.
The move comes amid continued concerns over the condition of public schools and the need for sustained investment to improve learning environments and educational outcomes.
