The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded its presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 general election, naming Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo among its campaign coordinators.
The updated list is scheduled for inauguration by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday. Under the new arrangement, Wike will coordinate campaign activities in Rivers State and the FCT, Soludo will oversee Anambra, while Adeleke has been assigned to Osun State.
The appointments are notable because the three politicians are affiliated with parties other than the APC. Wike remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Soludo was re-elected for a second term in November 2025 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while Adeleke secured re-election on August 16 under the Accord Party.
Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, has also been appointed Deputy National Coordinator I for stakeholders’ mobilisation in the South-West.
The latest appointments represent changes to the campaign council initially announced by the APC on August 22. In the original arrangement, former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed deputy director-generals.
Under the revised structure, Akpabio, Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq will serve as Deputy Vice-Chairmen I, II and III, respectively. Buni has been moved to the position of Deputy Director-General I for the North.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who previously held the position of Deputy Director-General III for the North, has now been appointed Deputy Director-General II for the region.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu have been named Deputy Director-Generals I and II for the South, respectively.
Another major change is the inclusion of all 32 APC governors as campaign coordinators for their respective states. The party has also assigned specific coordinators to states where its governorship candidates will lead campaign activities.
Sharafadeen Alli, the APC’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, has been appointed coordinator for the state. In Bauchi, the role goes to the party’s candidate, Mohammed Abubakar, while Chijioke Chukwu, the APC flagbearer in Abia State, will coordinate the campaign there.
The revised council also features 14 advisers, a new addition compared with the initial list. Those named include former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande; former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba; Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume; former Cross River South senator Florence Ita-Giwa; former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun; former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore; and Wale Edun, the former coordinating minister of the economy.
The campaign restructuring comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially opened campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections on August 19, with the campaign period scheduled to end on January 14, 2027, under the commission’s revised timetable.
Tinubu is expected to face competition from opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi, the flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
