Portugal coach Jorge Jesus has refused to prolong his public disagreement with Cristiano Ronaldo, saying he has nothing further to add after reading the forward’s detailed statement about their recent dispute.
Jesus was approached by journalists on Wednesday morning as he left his home for the Portuguese Football Federation headquarters. He confirmed that he had read Ronaldo’s statement but said his attention was now firmly on his responsibilities with the national team.
“I read the statement and now, like I do every day, I’m going to the Federation headquarters to work, to think about the Portuguese national team,” Jesus said.
“I have nothing more to say,” he added.
His response came one day after Ronaldo publicly shared his account of the events that resulted in his departure from the Portugal camp during the recent international break.
The Al Nassr captain accused Jesus of breaking his trust and failing to honour agreements on two occasions.
According to Ronaldo, the first incident happened during Portugal’s match against Norway, when Jesus asked him to warm up but ultimately did not bring him onto the pitch.
Ronaldo also alleged that Jesus later failed to follow through on agreed talking points during a press conference, which he said further damaged the relationship between them.
The dispute has raised fresh questions about Ronaldo’s future with the Portugal national team, particularly following his departure from the squad during the recent international window.
Jesus had previously played down suggestions of a serious or permanent breakdown between the pair, maintaining that Ronaldo remained available for future selection.
However, following Ronaldo’s detailed public statement, Jesus has now chosen not to respond to the individual allegations, instead stressing that he wants to concentrate on his work with Portugal.
