Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term has become a constant focus for him as he rallies support for the president ahead of the 2027 election.
Wike spoke on Monday during town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The former Rivers State governor urged residents to support Tinubu, pointing to federal appointments given to Rivers indigenes and what he described as development projects delivered by the administration in the state.
Wike said he was determined to mobilise support for Tinubu and expressed confidence that the president’s 2027 campaign would face less difficulty than his 2023 bid.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s re-election. When I am eating, I think about the president’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s re-election,” Wike said.
He appealed to Rivers residents to put political sentiments aside and support the president based on what he described as benefits the state had received from the Federal Government.
“Let us forget sentiment and vote for the person who has recognised the people of Rivers state with dividends of democracy and with several appointments,” he said.
Wike further said he expected Tinubu’s re-election effort in 2027 to be easier than the 2023 contest and urged Rivers voters to give the president strong support.
“I know the re-election of Tinubu in 2027 will be easier than that of 2023. We should appreciate Tinubu and ensure he gets a massive number of votes. We can do it,” he said.
The FCT minister also criticised opposition politicians seeking to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
He took aim at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who is contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who is his running mate.
Wike accused the two politicians of deceiving Nigerians and questioned their ability to mount a serious challenge to Tinubu.
He also claimed that the ADC ticket would struggle to secure the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State.
Turning his criticism to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Wike described Obi and other opposition candidates as “unelectable politicians.”
The minister also urged his supporters and political allies in Rivers State not to allow internal disagreements or communal disputes to distract them from their political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike’s comments come as political parties and candidates intensify their mobilisation efforts ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.
