The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has described the three-day warning strike by Nigerian workers as a reflection of growing dissatisfaction with the economic situation in the country ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The campaign organisation said the industrial action had brought renewed attention to the hardship being experienced by Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of living and declining purchasing power.
In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communication, Richard Ihediwa, the group argued that the workers’ demands were linked to the economic difficulties it attributed to the policies of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The campaign described the strike as a measure of public dissatisfaction with the government and questioned whether the administration should be given another term in office.
“The warning strike is a direct referendum on a failed government; a stark measure of how ill-conceived and ill-implemented economic policies have triggered widespread poverty in Nigeria,” the organisation said.
The group also questioned how the Tinubu administration could ask Nigerians to renew its mandate after what it described as its failure to protect citizens from the impact of its economic decisions.
“We ask, how can a government that failed to shield its citizens from the consequences of its policies, credibly ask the same citizens to renew its mandate?” it asked.
Campaign Lists Economic Concerns
The MDPCO criticised the Federal Government over what it described as delays and repeated extensions in the implementation of capital budgets.
It also raised concerns about continued borrowing, transparency and accountability, unfulfilled government promises and what it described as limited benefits from the removal of the petrol subsidy.
The campaign further rejected the administration’s presentation of its economic reforms as a success, arguing that the benefits being highlighted by the government were not sufficiently reflected in the everyday experiences of Nigerians.
“Indeed, the continued celebration by the APC government of supposed gains of its economic reforms, when those claimed gains remain largely invisible in the daily lives of average Nigerians is self-delusional,” it said.
According to the group, the ongoing economic challenges have made it necessary for the country to pursue reforms that directly address the welfare and livelihoods of citizens.
It called for people-centred economic policies, transparent social protection programmes and measures capable of protecting livelihoods while increasing domestic production.
Makinde Campaign Promotes ‘RESET Nigeria’
The organisation said its proposed Makinde/Daura administration would pursue what it called the RESET Nigeria Agenda.
The agenda, according to the campaign, would focus on inclusiveness, increasing national production, strengthening security, improving transparency and promoting accountability in government.
“The Makinde/Daura Presidency with its RESET Nigeria Agenda offers our nation a clear alternative with well thought-out, data-driven and people-friendly policies,” the group said.
The campaign organisation also claimed that Nigerians from different political backgrounds were increasingly supporting the presidential ambition of the APM candidate, Seyi Makinde.
It described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to decide whether the country should continue on its current path or embrace what it described as a new direction under the proposed Makinde/Daura presidency.
The organisation said its ultimate objective was to use the 2027 election to “RESET Nigeria” and build a country that works for all citizens.
