Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education across the state as public and private schools resume for the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session.
The governor made the commitment through the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, in a welcome-back message to students ahead of the resumption on Monday, September 15, 2026.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan on Friday.
Makinde described the beginning of the new academic session as an opportunity for students to renew their dedication to learning and pursue academic excellence.
He urged students to remain focused and disciplined, conduct themselves responsibly and comply with the rules and regulations governing their schools and the state.
“The government reaffirms its commitment to improving the education sector through strategic policies and programme to improve learning outcomes in public and private schools across the state.
“The first term is a crucial foundation-laying period for the academic year. I urge all stakeholders in the education sector to work together towards achieving improved academic performance and the overall development of learners,” Makinde said.
The governor also charged teachers to maintain high standards of professionalism, stressing the importance of punctuality, adequate preparation and effective lesson delivery.
He called for proper preparation of lesson plans, regular classroom attendance and exemplary behaviour, saying teachers should demonstrate the discipline and commitment expected from their students.
Makinde further urged parents and guardians to take an active interest in their children’s education by monitoring their academic performance and providing the necessary learning materials, including textbooks and notebooks.
He also encouraged parents to instil discipline in their children while maintaining regular communication with teachers and school authorities.
The governor advised owners of private schools to follow the academic calendar approved by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
“Compliance with approved guidelines remains essential to maintaining standards across the education sector,” he said.
