Iran has recorded the world’s largest volume of newly discovered natural gas since the beginning of 2025, with combined discoveries at the Takht and Pazan gas fields reaching 17.5 trillion cubic feet.
According to a report published on Thursday by TV BRICS, a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) partner, the discoveries have made Iran the leading country globally in terms of gas discoveries recorded over the period.
The 17.5 trillion cubic feet figure covers gas discovered at the two fields since the start of 2025.
The Takht gas field, located in southern Fars Province, accounts for 7.5 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, of which an estimated 5.5 trillion cubic feet is considered recoverable.
Iran plans to expand exploration activities as it seeks to further develop its hydrocarbon potential.
According to officials, part of the country’s expanded exploration efforts will focus on the north-eastern, northern and north-western regions.
The planned expansion is expected to support additional exploration and help identify more hydrocarbon resources across Iran.
