Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on a deal that will keep him at the Spanish club until 2029.
The Catalan club confirmed the transfer on Tuesday after failing to secure a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, whom they had pursued throughout the summer.
“Barcelona and Arsenal have reached a deal for the Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus,” the club said in a statement.
Spanish media reported that Barcelona paid Arsenal around €10 million ($11.5 million) for the 29-year-old forward.
Jesus arrives at Camp Nou to strengthen Barcelona’s attacking options following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres earlier this summer.
Barcelona had made Alvarez their preferred target but were unable to convince Atletico to negotiate with them for the Argentine striker.
The arrival of Jesus therefore provides Barcelona with another experienced attacking option as the Spanish champions prepare for the new season.
