The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has called on the Presidency to address concerns surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s health and provide details about his ongoing three-week leave in Europe.
The party said the concerns deserved clarification, particularly because Tinubu is currently out of the country amid what it described as worsening insecurity, economic hardship and other issues requiring the government’s attention.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the APM urged the Presidency to provide information on the President’s health, itinerary, entourage and official engagements during his time abroad.
“There is nothing wrong in the Presidency clearing the air on the state of health of Mr. President as obtainable in other climes.”
The party acknowledged that health challenges are part of human life but argued that transparency from the Presidency would help address concerns surrounding the President’s absence.
The APM also criticised the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy and what it described as a harsh tax regime.
The party claimed that the policies had pushed about 140 million Nigerians below the poverty line, while also putting the country’s debt at ₦159.28 trillion.
It further alleged that increased borrowing had not translated into sufficient benefits for Nigerians and accused some APC leaders of diverting public funds. The claims were made by the party and were not independently established in the statement.
On insecurity, the APM alleged that more than 628,000 Nigerians had been killed and 2.2 million abducted since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
The party accused the administration of failing to adequately protect Nigerians and said insecurity remained one of the major issues confronting the country.
The APM also urged Tinubu to use his three-week leave to reconsider his decision to seek another presidential term in the 2027 election.
According to the party, the demands of the presidency require an energetic leader capable of confronting Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
“The APM urges President Tinubu to use the period of the leave to introspect on his legacy of failures and rescind his decision to run in the 2027 Presidential race.”
The party went further to call on Tinubu to support its preferred presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, whom it described as young, energetic and capable of replicating his administration’s economic achievements in Oyo State at the national level.
The APM said it expected Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support Makinde’s candidacy.
