Manchester City have completed the signing of Brazilian winger Allan from Palmeiras on a five-year contract in a deal reportedly worth £34 million ($46 million).
The 22-year-old joins the Premier League champions after progressing through the Palmeiras academy and establishing himself as a regular member of the Brazilian club’s first team.
Allan made 96 senior appearances for Palmeiras before completing his move to England.
This season, the winger has scored four goals and provided three assists in 21 Brazilian top-flight matches, helping Palmeiras to the top of the league table.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Allan described joining Manchester City as a major moment in his career.
“This is a surreal moment for me.”
The Brazilian said City’s success over the past 15 years had made the club one of the most attractive destinations for players around the world.
He described signing for the club as the “proudest moment” of his life and said his conversations with officials convinced him that City was the right place to continue his development.
Allan Targets Trophies With City
Despite leaving Palmeiras, Allan said he would always retain a strong connection with his former club.
However, he described the decision to join Manchester City as an easy one because of his ambition to become the best player possible.
“I want to be the best footballer I can be.”
Allan said his main objective at the Etihad Stadium would be to contribute to Manchester City’s continued pursuit of trophies.
“My intention is to help City continue winning trophies. If I can do that, it would be a dream come true.”
The Brazilian arrives with City already making a strong start to the new Premier League campaign.
Manchester City currently sit top of the Premier League table after opening the season with victories over Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.
Allan will now look to establish himself in City’s squad as he begins the next stage of his career in English football.
