Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked well-wishers to refrain from placing congratulatory advertisements in newspapers or airing birthday messages across radio, television and digital platforms as he prepares to mark his 60th birthday.
Shettima, who will turn 60 on September 2, made the request in a statement issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
The Vice President said he wants the milestone to remain low-key, stressing that public attention should remain focused on national development rather than personal celebrations.
“I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms.”
Instead of organising celebrations or publishing paid advertisements, Shettima urged his well-wishers to channel their goodwill into prayers for Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He specifically requested prayers for the success of the government’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to insecurity, stronger national unity and greater peace and prosperity for Nigerians.
Shettima said his 60th birthday should be viewed as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to serving the country, rather than an occasion for elaborate celebrations.
