The Edo State Government has issued a transmission and distribution licence to CCETC Ogua Energy Limited for the full utilisation of its targeted 100MW power project.
The state government expressed confidence that the project will be completed and commissioned before the end of 2026, as part of efforts to improve electricity supply across Edo.
Commissioner for Power, Paul Usenbo, stated this in Benin City while presenting the licence certificate to the company.
Usenbo said the project had met key requirements for its first phase, which was scheduled for completion in July 2026, with attention now shifting to the second and final phase ahead of commissioning.
“The expectation is that the developers will complete the remaining phase and proceed to commissioning by the end of 2026.”
The commissioner said most major milestones were expected to be achieved by October, provided there were no unforeseen challenges or regulatory issues.
He assured the developers that the government could extend the deadline if significant difficulties affected the project’s completion.
“If there are any encumbrances or challenges faced by this project, I will give an extension of time.”
Usenbo said the government remained optimistic, pointing to the progress already made at the site and the ongoing delivery and installation of power-generation equipment.
He expressed confidence that the generation machines would be installed and operational within the projected timeframe.
