The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its online accreditation process for media organisations planning to cover the September 2026 rerun elections in selected constituencies across Nigeria.
The accreditation exercise began on Monday, August 24, 2026, through the commission’s INEC Media Accreditation Portal (IMAP).
The affected constituencies are Sakwa State Constituency in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.
Media organisations intending to deploy journalists and other relevant personnel to cover the elections are required to complete their applications through the online portal.
INEC said the accreditation window will close at midnight on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, stressing that the deadline will not be extended.
The commission also made it clear that the process is strictly online, with no manual applications to be accepted. Late applications will equally not be considered because the portal will automatically close once the deadline expires.
According to INEC, accreditation will only be granted to credible and duly registered media organisations.
“Media organisations are advised to complete their applications and nominations well before the deadline.”
The electoral commission urged interested organisations to ensure that all required information and supporting documents are correctly uploaded before the portal closes.
