The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its candidates to begin campaigns for the 2027 general elections, urging them to focus on issues affecting Nigerians and avoid violence, abusive language and inflammatory rhetoric.
In a statement on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party said the commencement of campaigns was in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party directed its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and National Assembly candidates to begin consultations and engagements with voters in their constituencies.
Governorship and State House of Assembly candidates were also directed to work with party stakeholders at the state and local levels to organise campaign programmes.
“All candidates across the country are to begin their campaigns.”
NDC Says Campaigns Must Be Issue-Based
The party said its campaign would be guided by peaceful political engagement and insisted that it has no room for violence.
It urged candidates to focus their campaigns on policies and issues affecting Nigerians rather than personal attacks or inflammatory statements.
“All campaigns must be issue-based and devoid of violence and foul language. The NDC has no room for violence.”
The party said it would soon announce and inaugurate its various campaign committees ahead of the election.
NDC Clarifies Logo Status
The NDC also clarified the status of its party logo, saying it had modified the logo following consultations with INEC and formally notified the electoral body.
However, the party said some administrative processes were still being resolved before the modified logo could officially replace the existing one.
Until the process is concluded, the party directed all candidates and members to continue using its existing two-finger victory sign for campaign activities.
