Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that Osun State Governor-elect Ademola Adeleke is supporting President Bola Tinubu, while vowing to make opposition figures uncomfortable ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike spoke on Friday in Abuja during an inspection of ongoing projects in the FCT, where he dismissed the suggestion that Adeleke’s re-election represented a victory for the opposition.
According to Wike, Adeleke remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but contested under the Accord Party because of internal disagreements within the PDP.
He said Adeleke’s recent meeting with Tinubu was part of discussions around the emerging “Rainbow Coalition” supporting the President.
“Adeleke is fully supporting Mr President and so we had to meet last night and encourage ourselves to continue.”
Wike also dismissed claims by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that they helped Adeleke win the Osun election, accusing them of trying to take credit for his victory.
He predicted that more politicians would join the coalition supporting Tinubu in the coming weeks.
“Sorry, Adeleke belongs to us and we all belong to Mr President.”
Wike Says Opposition Will Have ‘High Blood Pressure’
Asked about how opposition figures, particularly Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, might feel about his engagement with Adeleke, Wike said he was not concerned about their reactions.
He insisted that Nigeria currently has no formidable leading opposition party, pointing to the crisis within the PDP.
“I don’t want them to feel well. It is not my wish that they should feel well.”
Wike said his goal in a political contest was to defeat his opponents, not make them comfortable.
“My business is to make them not to feel well all the day, because they will be having high blood pressure. I guess that is my job — to make them have high blood pressure.”
He added that he would continue to put pressure on his political opponents.
“I will add more crisis for them.”
Wike Inspects IBB Golf Club
During the project inspection, Wike also visited the IBB International Golf Club, which is being rehabilitated following President Tinubu’s intervention.
He said the facility was important to members of the diplomatic community and noted that Tinubu had directed that it be reopened by December.
Wike said Julius Berger, which originally constructed the facility, was re-engaged for the renovation because of its knowledge of the project’s design and standards.
He said physical completion is expected by November, with the club scheduled to reopen officially in December.
The minister said the club had been shut following an internal leadership crisis, which led to the appointment of a caretaker committee headed by the President of the Court of Appeal.
He commended the committee for helping resolve the crisis and facilitate the rehabilitation.
Wike, however, said the government would not continue funding the club after its reopening, insisting that its management must generate enough revenue to cover its operations and maintenance.
