More than 20 people, including women and children, are feared dead following an attack on Amper community in the BWI district of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, making it the third reported attack in Mangu within the past week and heightening concerns over the security situation in the area.
Local sources said several residents were killed during the attack, while others are still reportedly missing. The development has left residents worried about further attacks and the safety of communities in the area.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident, although the exact number of casualties was still being established.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, said the initial report received by the police indicated 18 casualties, but added that the figure was believed to have risen above 20 as more information emerged from the affected community.
Alabo also disclosed that the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Faniyan Ayodeji, alongside other officers, was heading to the scene to assess the situation and obtain further details.
The latest incident has intensified calls from residents for stronger security measures and greater protection for communities in Mangu, particularly following the series of attacks recorded in the area within a short period.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the casualties and circumstances surrounding the attack as security personnel assess the situation.
