House of Representatives member James Faleke has responded to Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, after the musician accused him of pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to alter the outcome of the Osun governorship election.
Davido, who is the nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, had urged Faleke to respect the decision of Osun voters and accused him of attempting to influence the electoral process.
“Hon. James Faleke, stop putting pressure on INEC to change Osun election result. Respect the wishes of Osun people. We don’t want Oyetola and AMBO,” Davido wrote on X.
Responding to the allegation, Faleke said he went to Osun to support his party’s candidate, just as Davido supported the Accord Party, which produced his uncle as its candidate.
“I came to Osun to support my party’s candidate, while you supported your uncle’s party (Accord),” Faleke said.
The lawmaker denied having any ability or intention to influence the election result, insisting that INEC operates independently.
“INEC is a body that can’t be influenced by me or anyone else. I have never influenced or rigged before and I don’t plan to start now. Face your music while we face our politics.”
The exchange followed Davido’s declaration that he would never support the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The singer had earlier posted:
“I CAN NEVER SUPPORT APC IN MY LIFE!!!”
Davido also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to call members and supporters of the ruling party to order.
“Call your pple to order!! @officialABAT,” he wrote.
The political exchange came shortly before INEC declared Ademola Adeleke winner of the Osun governorship election on Sunday morning.
