The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Enugu State for the 2027 election, Uche Nnaji, has pledged to serve only one four-year term if elected governor.
Nnaji made the commitment on Friday during a reception organised by PDP supporters and stakeholders in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area, where he formally signed an undertaking to that effect.
He said the decision was in line with the existing zoning arrangement in the state and assured supporters that he would not seek re-election after completing his first term.
“I am not interested in perpetuating myself in power.”
Nnaji said the one-term commitment would allow him to concentrate on governance and the implementation of his development plans without being distracted by the pursuit of a second term.
He also promised to introduce what he described as a “one-day, one-project” policy, through which his administration would initiate and execute development projects across Enugu State.
According to him, the aim would be to leave a lasting legacy of development and improved living standards by the end of his four-year tenure.
On taxation, Nnaji said his administration would review policies that place excessive financial pressure on residents and businesses.
He expressed concern over the rising cost of living in Enugu, arguing that heavy taxation could discourage investors from establishing businesses and industries in the state.
Nnaji appealed to residents to support his ambition, promising a transparent and people-oriented administration focused on improving the state.
A PDP chieftain, Basil Ani, pledged the support of party members and supporters for Nnaji, describing his growing political support as a movement.
Ani also expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim the Enugu governorship in the 2027 general election.
