Former Accord presidential candidate Christopher Imumolen has declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, just days before Saturday’s election.
Imumolen made the declaration on Thursday during the APC campaign grand finale in Osogbo, where he called on Accord supporters in the state to vote for Oyebamiji.
According to Imumolen, he and members of his faction had withdrawn their backing for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term on the Accord platform.
“We have stepped down our support for Ademola Adeleke, and today we declare our support for AMBO.”
He urged Accord members across Osun to head to their polling units on Saturday and cast their votes for Oyebamiji.
Accord leadership dispute
Imumolen described himself as the national chairman of Accord and said his working committee had endorsed the decision.
However, the Accord leadership recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is led by Maxwell Mgbudem and has endorsed Adeleke’s re-election bid.
The development therefore adds another layer of political drama to an already closely watched Osun governorship election.
Imumolen had also recently withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and announced his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing national unity, stability and continued development.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with Adeleke and Oyebamiji among the major contenders.
