Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed to residents to turn out in large numbers for the August 15 governorship election, urging them to reject any attempt to return the state to what he described as a period of hardship under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the appeal in a post shared on his official X account on Thursday as political campaigns intensified ahead of the crucial governorship poll, where he is seeking a second term in office.
Adeleke claimed his administration had made significant progress in improving the welfare of residents and warned against allowing the state to return to what he described as the difficult experiences of previous years.
According to him, the former APC-led administration subjected many civil servants to economic hardship by paying half salaries, leaving families struggling to survive.
“I call on the good people of Osun State to brace up for just a few more days,” Adeleke wrote.
The governor alleged that the previous administration deliberately “weaponised poverty” by failing to fully pay workers and making life difficult for many residents.
“Those who once weaponised poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain. We must never go back to those dark days,” he said.
Adeleke urged eligible voters to use the August 15 election as an opportunity to protect what he described as the state’s progress and ensure continuity in governance.
He called on residents to support his administration’s vision of development, compassion and good governance at the polls.
“On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion and good governance,” the governor stated.
He also assured supporters that his administration remains committed to protecting the mandate given to it by the people and sustaining development across the state.
“Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward accordingly,” Adeleke added.
The governor’s remarks come as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, which is expected to be keenly contested.
