The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Chris Imumolen, has urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu for his political challenges, insisting that the governor’s current predicament is a result of his own administration’s performance.
In a statement, Imumolen said Adeleke had failed to meet the expectations of the people of Osun despite receiving substantial monthly allocations from the Federal Government, adding that voters were prepared to remove him from office in the August 15 governorship election.
The remarks come despite the fact that Adeleke enjoys the backing of the Maxwell Mgbudem-led faction of the Accord Party, which has also endorsed President Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
According to Imumolen, reports and feedback from across Osun State indicate that many residents are dissatisfied with the governor’s performance and are ready to vote for a new leadership.
He argued that Osun voters are politically aware and would judge candidates based on governance, accountability and tangible achievements rather than political rhetoric.
The Accord factional chairman accused Adeleke of failing to deliver meaningful development across key sectors, despite the financial resources available to his administration, and urged him to accept responsibility instead of blaming external forces for his challenges.
Imumolen also claimed that the governor’s political popularity had declined significantly, insisting that available opinion polls showed Adeleke faced an uphill battle in his bid for re-election.
“Opinion polls at our disposal have clearly shown that Governor Adeleke cannot scale through the election of August 15,” he said.
He added that the Accord Party had repeatedly advised the governor to focus on governance and performance but alleged that those warnings were ignored.
“Our party had earlier charged Governor Adeleke to take governance and performance seriously, but he consistently failed to heed our warnings. Now, the consequences of that negligence are catching up with him. Nobody is planning to rig you out,” Imumolen stated.
Responding to recent allegations from Adeleke’s camp about possible electoral malpractice, the Accord chairman dismissed the claims as an attempt to prepare excuses for an anticipated defeat.
According to him, the governor’s repeated warnings about election rigging were aimed at diverting attention from what he described as growing public dissatisfaction with the administration.
“Now that the people have concluded to vote him out, he is suddenly shouting rigging. Let it be known that nobody is planning to rig you out. The voters of Osun State are simply ready to hold you accountable for your woeful performance, and they will use their constitutional power to elect leadership that genuinely serves them,” he added.
The latest comments add to the growing political exchanges ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, as political parties intensify campaigns and trade accusations over governance, security and the credibility of the forthcoming poll.
