The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a fresh warning to prospective corps members, stating that graduates who fail to obtain National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) clearance will not be mobilised for the national service programme.
The scheme made the announcement on Monday in a public notice shared on its official X account, urging eligible graduates to complete the verification process as early as possible to avoid delays in mobilisation.
According to the NYSC, NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members preparing for the next service year.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
Reaffirming the directive, the NYSC added:
“NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Verification Now a Key Requirement
Although the scheme did not provide further details about the NERD clearance process, the latest directive signals a stricter verification procedure ahead of the mobilisation of the next batch of prospective corps members.
The advisory comes shortly after the NYSC announced the commencement of mobilisation for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all necessary documentation before the orientation exercise.
NYSC Also Warns Against Night Travel
The latest notice follows another recent advisory in which the NYSC cautioned prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night due to security concerns.
The scheme advised graduates to break their journeys whenever necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and other security formations rather than continue travelling after dark.
With preparations for the next orientation course already underway, prospective corps members are expected to complete every required registration and verification process—including the newly emphasised NERD clearance—before they can be successfully mobilised for national service.
