A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek re-election in 2027 based on the achievements of his administration rather than political rhetoric.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, the publisher of Ovation Magazine said Nigerians would decide the outcome of the next presidential election by evaluating the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Momodu, President Tinubu is not facing personal hatred from Nigerians but must convince voters that his government has delivered meaningful results.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. It is about performance. Present your scorecards,” Momodu said.
He urged members of the ruling party to focus less on political attacks and more on showcasing what the APC has achieved while in office.
‘APC Should Stop Blaming Previous Governments’
Momodu also criticised the APC for continuing to blame past administrations for Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges despite being in power since 2015.
According to him, if the current administration inherited a struggling economy, Nigerians should now judge it based on the steps it has taken to improve the situation.
“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.
Questioning the government’s performance, he added:
“Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?”
Comments on Obasanjo and Atiku
Momodu also reacted to the recent exchange between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Responding to Obasanjo’s remark that choosing Atiku as his vice president was his biggest political mistake, Momodu alleged that the former president has continued to oppose Atiku’s presidential ambition.
The comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, with President Tinubu expected to seek a second term while opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are also expected to play key roles in the race.
